The Columbia University, Robert N Butler Columbia Aging Center is seeking a full-time Staff Associate II (Biostatistician) to aid in statistical analysis and day-to-day research operation management associated with multiple concurrent research projects of the Aiello Research Group.
The Aiello Research Group seeks to identify the interaction and influence of social and biological factors on long-term health outcomes, including the effect of socioeconomic position, stress, and infection on chronic disease and mental health outcomes. We also investigate preventive measures for reducing infectious disease transmission in the community setting with a focus on non-pharmaceutical interventions. We aim to reduce social disparities in infection, chronic disease, and mental health by conducting integrative research across areas such as epidemiology, gerontology, sociology, infectious diseases, immunology, and laboratory research.
Responsibilities
30% - Statistical Analysis and Scientific Contribution
·Perform literature reviews and preliminary analyses to inform study design and funding proposals.
·Develop and implement statistical analysis plans in collaboration with investigators and research staff.
·Generate tables, figures, and data visualizations to support research development and dissemination of results.
30% - Data Management and Quality Assurance
·Oversee data management across multiple projects, including data cleaning, data auditing, and implementing quality control procedures.
·Develop and maintain high-quality codebooks, datasets, and code documentation.
·Ensure secure storage, organization, and integrity of research data throughout all phases of the research process.
20% - Research Coordination and Project Operations
·Coordinate day-to-day research activities, timelines, and project deliverables.
·Facilitate and schedule team meetings, track project progress, and support protocol implementation.
·Contribute to progress updates throughout project periods and close-out activities.
20% - Regulatory Compliance and Data Governance
·Prepare and manage IRB submissions and ensure adherence to approved protocols.
·Coordinate regulatory documentation (e.g., DUAs, MTAs) and data sharing processes.
·Develop and maintain SOPs for data management, including quality control processes, data storage details, and dissemination processes in line with regulatory security processes.
·Identify and complete ongoing professional development opportunities and support collaborative research activities.
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in a research specific field, such as public health, biostatistics, biomedical sciences, mathematics, or a related field and 4 years of experience recommended.
· Candidates must have experience with SAS, STATA, and/or R programming software.
· Experience in measurement and analysis of biological and social variables in the study of health and/or aging.
· Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and verbal/written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master?s degree in public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related field is preferred.
· Familiarity with one or more of the following data types: Biomarkers, DNA methylation data, RNA sequencing data, and/or metabolomics data.
· Experience or willingness to gain expertise in various programming languages.
· Experience with the Add Health study or other similar, large, longitudinal cohort studies.
· Demonstrated interest in the research topics investigated by the Aiello Research Group.
Other Requirements
· Ability to report in-person to New York City office Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm EST is required.
Appointments are on a fiscal year basis and are eligible for renewal each July 1st, contingent upon performance and funding. This position is anticipated for a duration of at least 2 years.
Projected start date will be July 1, 2026, position will be open until filled.
