The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy is conducting an open search for a Research Associate, Non-Tenure Track for the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty appointment based at the Baltimore Campus located in Baltimore, Maryland. The selected candidate will engage in laboratory research with activities funded by the NIH. This position involves independent research projects and research projects in collaboration with lab members and external collaborators. The research associate will also help supervise graduate students and coordinate other lab research projects.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore campus houses schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Law, and Dentistry. Additionally, the School of Pharmacy has a satellite campus at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland. The University of Maryland enjoys an excellent established record of accomplishment of successful collaboration for interprofessional practice and research collaborations with the other professional schools on campus.

This position is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead independent project research studies in collaboration with the PI.
Maintain laboratory records including well-organized electronic data files.
Present results to the PI and contribute to discussions and direction of studies in the lab.
Compile, analyze, and interpret research data using various computer software applications.
Prepare manuscripts, reports, reviews, and summaries.
Assist in writing, editing, providing feedback for grant proposals, funding applications.
Present research findings at national meetings.
Provide oversight into the day-to-day operations in the lab to keep the lab functioning optimally. Orient new students to the lab. Develop policies, procedures, and/or methods for laboratory experimentation, and for ordering supplies. Identify and address issues and deficiencies and implement effective solutions. Coordinate with the system administrator to ensure continued operation and optimal usage of the lab computer equipment including high performance computing clusters.
Troubleshoot problems with computer programs or other issues that may arise.
Train and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
Perform other duties assigned.
SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL, AND PUBLIC
Participate in service contributions to the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science programs through serving on appropriate committees.
Participation in appropriate faculty activities (e.g., faculty assembly, department meetings, and faculty committees), professional organizations, and other endeavors is expected.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
PhD in Condensed Matter Physics or a related field with a minimum of seven years post-doctoral training and expertise as a full-stack engineer is required.
Candidate must have skills in computer programming including Fortran, C++, Python and Shell scripts as well as expertise in the development of Graphical Processing Units including use of CUDA, OpenCL, HIP and GP parallelization.
Knowledge and research experience with advanced molecular dynamics simulation techniques, quantum mechanical calculations and the site identification of ligand competitive saturation (SILCS) methodology are required.
Knowledge in Monte-Carlo methods, including in the Grand Canonical ensemble and machine learning is required.
A solid record of publication in peer-reviewed journals is expected.
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are a must.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Skilled in software development including GUIs.
Skilled in designing and conducting studies based on molecular dynamics simulations and quantum mechanical calculations.
Skilled in SILCS and computer-aided drug design.
Ability to network with and provide information to relevant groups and individuals.
Ability to work in collegial fashion with members in the lab.
Provide guidance and consultation to resolve issues.
Ability to independently perform research in a laboratory setting.
Ability to lead several research activities in parallel.
Skilled in data analysis using Python programs and machine learning tools.
Ability to diagnose software installation issues.
Ability to design research studies and prepare technical reports and manuscripts. Meticulous attention to details.

SALARY RANGE
School Assistant Professor: $70,000 - $90,000
The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
