St. Joseph’s Hospital is a private, not-for-profit, community hospital comprised of St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. St. Joseph’s is a member of BayCare Health System, which provides both acute care and outpatient services to the greater Tampa Bay region. The Department of Pharmacy is responsible for pharmaceutical care services for approximately 900 acute care beds with an average daily census of more than 80%.
The St. Joseph’s Hospital PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency Program is a 12-month program that provides specialized training for residents in emergency medicine, with a goal to develop a pharmacist with the skills and abilities to successfully practice as an emergency medicine clinical pharmacist. The program is designed to provide advanced clinical training to promote independent critical thinking skills. The resident will gain experience through participation in the resuscitation of cardiac/respiratory arrests, trauma activations, stroke alerts, cardiac alerts, rapid sequence intubations, and procedural sedations. The program is based at St. Joseph's Hospital campus with opportunities to gain experience throughout the system. The 100-bed Emergency Center is the busiest in Tampa Bay, with an outstanding team of board-certified emergency medicine physicians, nurses, and paramedics that provide care to more than 150,000 adults and children every year. St. Joseph's Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center, a state-approved Pediatric Trauma Referral Center, and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.
