The Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology at the University of Iowa invites applications for one full-time Instructor (non-tenure track) position with faculty fringe benefits. This teaching position is a 9- or 12-month appointment and renewable annually with the possibility of merit based advancement. The preferred start date is July 1 or September 1, 2026. Applications are sought from candidates with a demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching of basic and advanced pharmacology.
The selected candidate will ultimately teach pharmacology in several Department lecture courses delivered to students of differing academic backgrounds (undergraduate, graduate, and professional students). This Instructor will also assist with small group teaching within the medical curriculum. Duties of this position include course management, teaching, assisting the Associate Chair of Education, and professional development of undergraduate and graduate students.
Required Education
A PhD degree in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Physiology, or a related biomedical discipline is required
Required Qualifications
Graduate-level training in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Physiology, and/or related biomedical discipline
Demonstrated potential in the following areas:
teaching excellence across multiple content areas and formats (lecture, small group, etc.)
student engagement using creative pedagogy
mentoring students from different backgrounds
Desirable Qualifications
Experience teaching students with varying academic backgrounds (i.e. undergraduate, graduate, professional)
Experience with web-based learning management systems (e.g. Canvas/ICON)
Experience with non-traditional instruction methods (e.g. flipped classroom
