Vanderbilt University Medical Center has supported post-graduate pharmacy education since 1993 when the PGY1 Pharmacy residency was first accredited by ASHP. Since that time, Vanderbilt has added 4 additional VUMC Adult PGY1 positions and established multiple PGY2 pharmacy residency programs such as: Cardiology (2013), Critical Care (2008), Health System Pharmacy Administration (2016), Infectious Diseases (2017), Informatics (2006), Oncology (2011), Solid Organ Transplant (2006) and PGY1/PGY2 Pediatrics at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. All programs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt are ASHP-accredited or in the accreditation process.

Under the guidance of our clinical and administrative staff our residents have the opportunity to learn and practice pharmaceutical care in acute settings with additional experiences offered in management, critical care, cardiology, oncology, nutrition, transplant, pediatrics, general medicine and informatics. Residents are involved in longitudinal experiences such as conferences, code coverages, research projects, and teaching opportunities, as well as, integrated into multidisciplinary patient teams to optimize pharmacotherapy plans. This unique experience is personally tailored to each pharmacy resident and will build a foundation for the residents to provide a high level of clinical pharmacy practice.

The VUMC pharmacy residency program is NOT able to sponsor visas for pharmacy residents.
