The PGY2 in Ambulatory Care at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy has two sites, one on the Little Rock campus and one in Fayetteville. The residency is designed to provide targeted learning experiences in unique ambulatory care settings while allowing room for exploration of specific interest areas. Experiences range from an interprofessional, student-led, free clinic, to community-based patient-centered medical homes to traditional specialty practices on the UAMS campus. The variety of experiences will prepare the resident for any number of future career options. The resident will precept pharmacy students, be exposed to students and residents from several other health professions, and provide educational seminars to other healthcare professionals.

Orientation is a two-month block in July and August. The other core rotations are longitudinal experiences scheduled from September through March. They allow residents to rotate one to two half days per week in each clinic to allow for exposure to different ambulatory care settings within the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences health system.

Electives are month-long rotations from April to June and may be arranged from well-established ambulatory pharmaceutical care areas or developed from non-traditional areas. The selection of elective experiences may be based on the resident’s interest area(s) and previous experiences and is subject to approval by the Residency Program Director. Our residency program allows the resident to explore activities within our tertiary care facility and her sister facilities, Arkansas Children’s Hospital and Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. The resident has a wide variety of available electives spanning practice sites from pediatrics to geriatrics and numerous specialty areas. The resident may also select any of the core areas as an advanced elective experience.

Design and conduct a research project to be presented at a state and national meeting
Completion of the UAMS College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program
Completion of the UAMS College of Pharmacy Research Certificate Program
Successful completion of a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice residency is required to apply
