Stanford ChEM-H is an interdisciplinary institute focused on connecting Chemistry, Engineering, and Medicine for Human Health. POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist in Protein Engineering for the Stanford ChEM-H Therapeutic Knowledge Center. Our laboratory focuses on the translation of scientific discoveries into therapeutic drug candidates. In this role, we provide knowhow and technology for the generation and development of protein therapeutics. Thereby we cover molecular biology, protein production and purification, protein characterization, and high-throughput protein optimization using directed evolution techniques.
Your work will contribute to several projects that are focused on developing novel protein prototypes for a variety of therapeutic applications. Are interested in performing drug discovery research and are able to independently conduct experiments and analyze results? Then help us to forge a new generation of custom-made protein tools and therapeutics!
CORE DUTIES:
Support research programs related to discovery and development of protein therapeutics with expertise in molecular biology, directed evolution, protein production, and biophysical characterization thereof.
Collaborate with other scientists and support them in the development of protein assays.
Carry out all activities, including troubleshooting and resolving problems related to protein engineering and drug discovery.
Prepare periodic progress reports and written final reports.
Participate in the planning, design, and implementation of drug discovery initiatives. Work toward project objective under minimal supervision of the principal investigator or supervisor.
Oversee a laboratory space and supervise the work of other technicians or staff associated with the group.
Perform regular literature review to remain current with new procedures and technologies regarding protein engineering. Implement your findings into your laboratory processes.
Communicate and enforce compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
Formally supervise and train other technicians or staff associated with the group on new instrumentation and instruct on assays and laboratory techniques.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelors' degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, or related field, or five years of equivalent work experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Desired Education & Experience:
Bachelors' degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, or related field, and a minimum of five years of work experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
Basic understanding of protein chemistry, molecular biology and protein engineering.
Demonstrated laboratory skills in molecular biology, protein purification and characterization.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
Ability to independently setup, oversee and manage instrumentation and laboratory equipment.
Basic experience in project management.
excellent team working skillss demonstarted in collaboration with senior scientists and scientific staff.
Experience in reviewing research proposals, evaluating laboratory capabilities, and making scientific recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to establish, communicate, and enforce compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
Experience overseeing a laboratory space or unit and supervising the work of technicians and other staff associated with the group.
Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and train a diverse work staff.
Ability to work under deadlines according to general guidelines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
Frequently grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally stand/walk, sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully.
Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, operate foot and/or hand controls, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
