Dear Prospective Fellowship Candidate,
The U.S. Medical Affairs Oncology - Strategic Evidence & Collaborations and Community Oncology Strategy Fellowship, offered in collaboration with the University of Southern California, Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Gilead Sciences, is designed for a doctoral-level graduate (PharmD, MD, or PhD) interested in pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical industry. The fellow will have extensive exposure to the U.S. Medical Affairs organization and gain a thorough understanding of the role of Medical Affairs within the oncology pharmaceutical industry.
The fellow will be an integral part of US Medical Affairs Oncology, with an emphasis on medical affairs activities for strategic evidence generation, congress planning & execution, external collaborations with HCPs, professional societies and research partners, and Gilead’s Community Cancer Collective (CCC). There will be an opportunity to rotate through other departments at Gilead.
Duration: 2 years (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2028)

U.S. Medical Affairs, Oncology (SEC / CCC) Fellowship Activities:
Congress Excellence: Help manage U.S. congress strategic planning & tactical execution, including co-leading medical congress planning for Tier 1 and 2, regional, society, and cooperative group meetings and supporting KOL engagement planning.
Data Generation: Support evidence generation activities across various tumor types in the US, including collaboration with cooperative groups, NCI, and other key organizations. This includes the review of the Oncology Medical Affairs external-sponsored research proposals in the US.
Community Medical Engagement: Support key initiatives and engagements related to Gilead’s Community Cancer Collective (CCC), which is focused on bringing together key partners to improve the lives of patients receiving their cancer care in the community by generating evidence, addressing disparities and improving health equity, and enabling education for providers and patients.
Medical Affairs Launch Activities: Support various launch activities including advisory board planning, congress preparation, and content generation for Field Medical.
Strategic Planning: Participate in local Medical Affairs POA (Plan of Action) and IEP (Integrated Evidence Plan) strategic workshops.
Cross-functional Collaboration: The fellow will collaborate with colleagues across US and Global Medical Affairs, Patient Access and Quality, Scientific Communications/Publications, Medical Affairs Outcomes Research, Commercial Strategy, Marketing, Value, and Market Access, Clinical Research/Development, US Public Affairs, Patient Engagement, Business Conduct (Legal), and the field-based US Medical Science Liaisons to learn about the role and value of Medical Affairs within Gilead.
Operational Excellence: The fellow will have opportunities to work on projects within the Oncology Medical Affairs team related to process improvement and best-practice development.
Rotational Opportunity: Based on the fellow’s interests, there may be an opportunity to participate in rotations with other Gilead departments during the second year to gain comprehensive experience and diversify your skillset.
USC Graduate Coursework: Fellows may complete graduate coursework at the University of Southern California with the opportunity to pursue a Graduate Certificate in a variety of fields.
Leadership & Career Development: Fellows will have opportunities for leadership, teaching, and professional growth, including mentoring PharmD students and engaging in professional development activities such as goal setting, strengths identification/assessments, advising, coaching, and mentoring at USC.
Minimum Application Requirements: The candidate must have completed a PharmD from an accredited college or university within five years of initial appointment and a minimum doctoral program GPA of 3.0.
