Program Overview This two-year program combines a PGY1 residency, PGY2 residency, and a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a specialization in Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL), offered through the University of North Carolina.
Residency Site BayCare HSPAL residents are based at the St. Joseph’s Hospital campus in Tampa, FL, which includes St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. The Department of Pharmacy oversees more than 900 acute care beds.
Year One focuses on building a strong clinical foundation while introducing administrative experiences.
Year Two emphasizes advanced leadership development and patient-centered care delivery across the BayCare Health System.

Academic Partnership BayCare is proud to partner with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to provide residents with a world-class didactic education. Residents join a national cohort of HSPAL trainees from institutions such as UNC Medical Center, Duke University Hospital, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Moses Cone, Mission Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and other institutions.
Classes are attended remotely from BayCare, allowing residents to integrate academic learning with hands-on experience.
Master’s Degree Curriculum The MS curriculum is completed longitudinally over the two-year residency. It culminates in a thesis substitute—a supervised project in health-system pharmacy administration with direct relevance to BayCare operations.

Residency candidates should submit all requirements for acceptance through the PhORCAS website. Once submitted, applications will be reviewed, and candidates will be selected for on-site interviews. After the interviews are completed, a rank list will be submitted to ASHP via the National Matching Service
