The ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital (formerly known as Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak Hospital) has been training pharmacy residents since 1977. Each year, the program accepts six traditional PGY1 residents into the program with the goal of developing the residents into confident and competent practitioners. There are 7 required learning experiences (Orientation, Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Drug Information, Integrated Practice Experience, Internal Medicine, Practice Management) with numerous elective and selective rotations available to be chosen by the resident. The Integrated Practice Experience is a unique rotation where the resident is immersed within the unit-based pharmacist practice model. An in-house, on-call program aids the resident in developing clinical confidence and autonomy while participating in code response, inpatient tenecteplase administration for stroke, complex patient-specific drug information questions, supratherapeutic toxicology level evaluation and antimicrobial stewardship activities. The Ambulatory Care experience focuses on anticoagulation, diabetes and transitions of care, and may include exposure to high-risk obstetric, Hepatitis C, and HIV clinics. Additionally, the residents serve as student preceptors through various opportunities and have dedicated project time throughout the year. A chief resident position, resident chair positions, advisor program, and optional participation in the Wayne State University Teaching and Learning Curriculum are available.
Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital (formerly known as Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak) is a 1,100-bed, Level 1 adult and Level 2 pediatric trauma, academic medical center offering a wide variety of medical services to a growing suburban community. Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital is recognized by US News and World Report as one of "America's Best Hospitals" for the 31st consecutive year and as #2 in the state of Michigan. The Department of Pharmaceutical Services utilizes an integrative practice model where pharmacists have responsibilities for both distributive and clinical functions. Distributive services are provided through a centralized model, with satellites in critical areas (pediatrics, oncology, operating rooms, and emergency center). Pharmacy operations are supported by technology including Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets and carousals. The medical record is supported by Epic, with implemented electronic Medication Administration Record and Barcode Medication Administration functionality. A variety of clinical services are offered, including pharmacokinetic dosing, anticoagulation monitoring, antibiotic monitoring, renal dose adjustments, IV to PO conversions, EMR-embedded clinical monitoring, and participation in multidisciplinary patient care rounds and huddles. Our institution employs over 25 clinical preceptors, many of whom hold adjunct faculty appointments with neighboring Colleges of Pharmacy and/or the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
Residency candidates must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited in the U.S. and must be eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. Candidates must also register for the Matching Program and have a National Matching Services (NMS) applicant number.
We welcome applications from non-U.S. citizens who have a “green card” (permanent resident status) or a current visa valid through the entire duration of the residency program (~54 weeks). The PGY1 residency program is unable to sponsor visas for pharmacy residents.
Interested candidates must submit the following information via PhORCAS: • Curriculum Vitae • Letter of Intent • Three PhORCAS recommendation forms (at least 2 clinical preceptors preferred) • Transcripts from College of Pharmacy
