The Fulton State Hospital (FSH) PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency Program, in affiliation with the University of Missouri Psychiatric Center and Harry S. Truman VA Hospital, offers one ASHP-accredited position each year beginning July 1. The program provides extensive opportunities to work directly with patients experiencing treatment-resistant psychiatric and co-occurring disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and developmental disabilities.
The residency is primarily based at Fulton State Hospital, the state’s oldest and only high-security forensic psychiatric facility. Additional training experiences occur at the University of Missouri Psychiatric Center, offering acute inpatient care, consultation-liaison and ambulatory psychiatry, and child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital for pain management.
Residents gain comprehensive clinical experience across diverse psychiatric practice areas, including long-term and acute inpatient psychiatry, outpatient care, acute rehabilitation, geriatrics, developmental disabilities, pain management, and pharmacy administration and leadership. Residents participate in interdisciplinary treatment teams, daily rounds with providers, medication education groups, and academic teaching involving psychiatry residents, nurse practitioner students, physician assistant students, psychology interns, medical students, and pharmacy students. Mid-level practitioners also receive weekly psychopharmacology lectures during their first six months of practice.
Unique program features include a longitudinal learning experience focused on the clinical and operational management of a pharmacy–managed clozapine laboratory, providing finger stick hematology monitoring for clozapine-treated patients. Upon successful completion, residents will meet CLIA qualifications to serve as a laboratory director, technical consultant, or both for a non-waived laboratory performing moderate complexity testing. Residents also participate in committees and panels such as the Trauma-Specific Therapy Consultation Team, State Psychopharmacology Panel, Incompetent to Stand Trial Committee, Research Committee, and the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
By the end of the program, residents will be prepared to practice in various psychiatric specialty settings and equipped with the skills and competencies required for board certification in psychiatric pharmacy.

Applicants should have a Pharm.D. degree, or equivalent experience, with completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program and be eligible for licensure in Missouri. Interested individuals must send a completed application and curriculum vitae via PhORCAS. Further information can be obtained by contacting the program director.
