PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency – Baptist Health/ Wolfson Children’s Hospital
The PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at Baptist Health/Wolfson Children’s Hospital (BH/WCH) is a 12-month, ASHP pre-candidate program designed to foster the development of clinical skills and knowledge base necessary to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients. Pharmacists completing this program will achieve great strides in their professional development by functioning with a high level of maturity, leadership, and professionalism in their chosen pediatric pharmacy career path. The PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency is designed to transition PGY1 residency graduates from generalist practice to specialized practice focused on the care of pediatric patients. Our program is designed to develop essential knowledge and skills for health-system pharmacy practice. Residency graduates are equipped to participate as integral members of interdisciplinary medical teams caring for pediatric patients, assuming the role of medication expert in pediatric pharmaceutical care. The residency program provides flexibility to adapt to the resident’s specific learning needs and goals. Training is provided through rotational experience and longitudinal activities.
Graduates of the BH/ WCH PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency will be competent and confident practitioners of pharmaceutical care in diverse pediatric patient care environments, ensuring safe, effective, and appropriate drug therapy.
PGY-2 Program Purpose
PGY-2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY-2 residencies provide opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience, knowledge, and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY-2 pharmacy residency are prepared for pharmacy careers in advanced patient care, academia, other specialized positions, and board certification.
- Applicants must possess the Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an ACPE- accredited program, or a program pursuing ACPE accreditation
- Applicants should be eligible for licensure in the state of Florida, and exams taken prior to the beginning of the residency program
- Applicants must complete an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency, or a PGY1 pharmacy residency program in candidate status
