Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, the Clinical and Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day clinical and operational activities of the pharmacy. This position serves as a liaison, collaborating closely with healthcare professionals, hospital leadership, and clinical departments to promote safe high-quality care. The Clinical and Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the medication distribution processes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and developing and implementing clinical initiatives that improve patient outcomes, while focusing on cost-effective pharmacy operations to maintain exceptional service standards in both clinical and operations. The manager leads a multidisciplinary team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the delivery of safe high-quality pharmaceutical and clinical care to patients. Additionally, the Clinical and Operations Manager will be involved in the recruitment, training, and performance management of pharmacy staff, ensuring compliance with state (Ca BOP, CDPH), federal (DEA), and regulatory standards (Joint Commission, USP), and driving operational efficiencies utilizing pharmacy metrics (KPI) and development of standard work, enhancing the overall quality of pharmacy services. Some of the key responsibilities include leading and managing day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, ensuring efficient medication distributions and pharmacy workflows; developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state, federal, regulatory standards, and best practices; monitors pharmacy staff performance, providing ongoing education and training; lead quality improvement initiatives, oversee clinical pharmacy services, including drug therapy management and manage medication inventory.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of Ca Board of Pharmacy, CDPH, DEA, and UPS regulations; Joint Commission standards.
Must demonstrate customer service and teamwork skills appropriate to the job
Minimum 5-year clinical experience in an inpatient hospital setting or minimum 2-year clinical experience in an inpatient hospital setting and a residency (PGY-1 or PGY-2).
Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy degree
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
Demonstrated experience providing oversight, training, and development for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
Demonstrated experience monitoring quality and efficiency utilizing metrics
Demonstrated experience developing efficient workflows, programs, policies and standard operating procedures
Current BLS or ACLS certification
CA Board of Pharmacy Registered Pharmacist licensure in good standing
Ability to perform job duties independently and in compliance with requirements of licensure
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Preferred Qualifications:
Management residency (PGY-2).
Knowledge or experience with 340B Drug Pricing Program
Experience managing in a Union environment.
Board Certification in a clinically based pharmacy specialty (Pharmacotherapy).
1-2 years of experience in a supervisory, lead or management role in pharmacy.
