Position Summary/ Department Summary: The Division of Gastroenterology is seeking a Senior Staff Research Scientist to join the Ordovas-Montanes Lab (Boston Children's Hospital). This lab specializes in understanding the principles of how inflammation drives memory formation in barrier tissues with the goal of developing new therapeutic avenues for human disease. This individual will help to lead a collaborative project to understand mucosal immunity to respiratory infection and vaccination. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Jose Ordovas-Montanes and be responsible for managing a small team of Research Assistants and Data Scientists.

Key Responsibilities:
Direct and manage the execution of a large-scale integrated experimental and computational single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) based research project. Specific responsibilities will include:
Overall project management
Training individuals in experimental and computational scRNA-seq methods
Meeting timelines and specific deliverables
Regular reporting and communication within the lab and to external collaborators
Demonstrate a track record in scRNA-seq technologies, team management, and scientific publishing, preferably with a strong interest in immunology
May develop independent research projects and experiments of moderate to high complexity which includes maintenance of high quality documentation, analysis and proper interpretation of data, and preparation of reports, presentations, or other technical communications as necessary
Collaborates with Principal Investigator(s) in determining original scientific research projects' goals, methodologies and deliverables
May manage research lab personnel and oversee lab operations. May help train and supervise students and post-doctoral fellows. Participates in writing of grant proposals, planning and implementing technical meetings and symposia
Minimum Qualifications Education:
A PhD in Biology, Systems Biology, Immunology, Chemistry, or similar field is required
Experience:
A minimum of 4 years of original and relevant research experience is required
Experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow or relevant experience in the Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical sector is preferred but not required
Demonstrated expertise in both experimental and computational scRNA-seq approaches, including 10x Genomics
Experience with Next Generation Sequencing data analysis and alignment, especially via Cloud Computing and High-Performance Computing
Proficiency in data analysis in R and/or python; experience with pipelining in nextflow is preferred but not required
Strong mentorship track record with multiple mentees/direct reports
Knowledge in respiratory tract, epithelial cell, and/or viral infection biology
