The Director, Pharmacy Services is responsible for the strategic planning, design, operations, and improvement of the medication management system to facilitate safe and efficient care that results in positive patient outcomes.
Job Responsibilities:
Assures efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the Department of Pharmacy Assures compliance with applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements and formal professional standards pertaining to drug storage, distribution, utilization, and control, including a system of controls and records for the requisitioning and dispensing of pharmaceutical supplies to nursing care units and to other department/services of the organization; provides leadership and consultation to the drug storage and preparation areas of all pharmacy services.
Prepares and delivers reports containing qualitative and/or quantitative data to system pharmacy leadership and entity operational leadership outlining progress towards meeting annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, safety, and human resources.
Plans and coordinates personnel and patient care activities to assure safety, quality, customer/patient satisfaction, efficiency, and consistency.
Coordinates the maintenance of the controlled substance inventory and the destruction of controlled substances.
Oversees and supports department talent acquisition, retention, and engagement activities. Serves as a mentor and role model to the pharmacy staff, aiding in ongoing professional development.
Assessed manager and staff development needs, identifies goals and provides resources.
Provides oversight of scheduling and staffing patterns to meet productivity standards, maximize staff productivity, minimize overtime, and maintain payroll expense within budget guidelines while maintaining best practices and creating an innovative environment.
Works to promote compliance with established policies within the department and system and local Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committees.
Informs operational and capital budgets and is accountable for the annual personnel, supply, and expense budgets of the pharmacies; ensure the equipment and supply inventories are adequately maintained to provide for quality and continuity of pharmaceutical care.
Actively engages staff to improve financial outcomes; creates business plans and justifies any variances through analysis of cost benefit progress in coordination with system pharmacy leadership.
Ensures that department is supported with competent management, professional, and technical personnel.
Collaborates with other departments or disciplines to improve medication use and safety.
Degree in pharmacy required.
Masters degree in pharmacy, health services, or business administration or related field preferred.
Five years of leadership-level experience in a large academic hospital or health-system with a documented record of success.
Current licensure (or eligibility) as a pharmacist in the state of Georgia.
Must have demonstrated expertise in and understanding of federal and state pharmacy statutory and regulatory provisions, including the Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid statutes and regulations, and the Georgia Board of Pharmacy Rules (and related compliance).
