Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville (VBMC) is a 280-bed community hospital located in the heart of Brownsville, Texas. Award-winning services provided include stroke treatment, women’s health, heart and vascular treatment, orthopedics/joint replacement, diabetes management, wound care, behavioral health services and many more. In addition we are a Level 3 Trauma Center ready to serve our patients 24/7. Our hospital has been committed to serving the Rio Grande Valley community for over 90 years.
The department of Pharmacy strives to provide the highest quality of pharmaceutical care through inter-professional collaboration, continual education, and research. Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville currently serves as a rotation site for pharmacy students from Texas A&M College of Pharmacy and The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.
The PGY1 residents have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of services including pharmacokinetics, formulary management, medication use evaluation (MUE), research project, medication safety programs, and quality improvement initiatives. Rotations are 6 weeks long and tailored to the resident’s interest. Required rotations during the residency year are: Medical ICU, cardiology, infectious disease, internal medicine, and administration. Elective rotations include but are not limited to surgical ICU, neonatal ICU, antimicrobial stewardship, emergency medicine, neuro ICU, pain management/palliative care. Our residents are expected to present their MUE results at the annual Midyear Clinical Meeting and the research projects results at the Residency Leadership Conference (Alcalde). The residents participate in the Pharmacotherapy rounds and have the opportunity to obtain a teaching certificate through UT College of Pharmacy. The residents are encouraged to become pharmacy preceptors once all of the requirements according to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy are met and will have the opportunity to precept students on rotation at VBMC.

REQUIREMENTS:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
Licensure/eligibility for licensure in Texas
Registered with PhORCAS and the National Matching Service
Exceptional knowledge, communication skills, and leadership qualities
