Job Description:
Performs procedures and first-assists in the operating room as trained and appropriately credentialed.
Builds a clinical practice in conjunction with the surgeon to independently see return and post-op patients.
Actively participates in program building and improvement measures.
Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psycho-social status.
Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
Provides follow-up/post-op care in the outpatient clinic.
Coordinates preoperative and postoperative planning with primary care providers and anesthesia providers for patients traveling from a distance.
Collaborates with primary care providers, specialty care providers and/or inpatient providers to provide comprehensive patient care.
Performs advanced treatments and/or procedures following verification of competency including but not limited to: administration of chemotherapy orders, paracentesis, pleural taps, tumor biopsies, and other department specific procedures.
Facilitates referral of patients to department appropriate referrals: specialty care, physical therapy, occupational therapy.
May provide cross coverage for other General Surgery programs.
Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.
Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patientâ™s plan of care.
Performs other related work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
An advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA).
Experience:
Clinical experience in a related area of specialty.
Licenses and Certifications for Advanced Practice Nurse:
Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.Â
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date. Â
Licenses and Certifications for Physician Assistant:
Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.
