Owensboro Health Regional Hospital is a 477-bed hospital that serves an 18-county area in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The Pharmacy Department at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital employs over 25 pharmacists. Pharmacists participate in the delivery of optimal pharmaceutical care by providing clinical and dispensing services throughout the hospital with both centralized and decentralized staff. Satellite pharmacies exist for surgery and outpatient oncology. Five pharmacy specialists practice in their respective areas of ambulatory care, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases and oncology.
Each resident completes 7 required concentrated rotations and 5 required longitudinal rotations, as well as, 5 elective concentrated rotations based on their interests. Required rotations include orientation, ambulatory care, critical care I, emergency medicine I, infectious diseases I, internal medicine I, and pharmacy management. Longitudinal experiences include drug information, medication use evaluation, pharmacy practice (staffing), research, and teaching certificate. Electives include, but are not limited to cardiology, critical care II, emergency medicine II, infectious diseases II, internal medicine II, medication safety, oncology I/II, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery.
Residents participate in hospital committees and associated initiatives. The teaching certificate program, as well as research resources, and additional program benefits are provided through affiliation with University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. Wellness program offers 4 wellness leave days throughout the year to include 3-day weekends to focus on resident well-being and mental health.
Graduate or candidate for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP. Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Kentucky by the residency start date. Online application to be completed using PhORCAS.
