The combined 2-year residency/master of science in pharmaceutical sciences with a specialization in health-system pharmacy administration and leadership program provides residents with the knowledge, skills and experiences necessary to assume a variety of roles and leadership positions. Our graduates are equipped to serve as vibrant, committed professionals with a focus on improving patients’ health, health care delivery and the pharmacy profession as a whole. We help ensure their success through both didactic education and experiential opportunities in the classroom and in the workplace.
While fulfilling PGY1 & PGY2 objectives, you will develop expertise in direct patient care, pharmacy operations, clinical management, medication safety, quality improvement, financial management, automation and informatics, policy development, interdepartmental collaboration, human resource management and much more. Residents are able to cater their experience to areas that are of interest to them including experiences in areas like oncology, specialty pharmacy, sterile compounding, ambulatory care, etc.
Longitudinal experiences include the option of a teaching certificate program, grand rounds continuing education presentations, robust longitudinal research projects carried out during each residency year, and, during the PGY2 year, a longitudinal management experience in an area within the pharmacy department to give direct management and HR experience. Didactic experience will include master's level coursework at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy to complement the core experiential competencies. In addition, the resident will be immersed in leadership opportunities within the department, state and national organizations.

Requirements: Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school, licensure in the state of North Carolina or eligible, and ability to meet all requirements for application to UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Master Program.

In the ambulatory setting the Department of Pharmacy has community and specialty outpatient services as well as home infusion. Graduate Pharmacy Education consists of eleven residency programs, an internship program, and learning experiences for three schools of pharmacy in North Carolina.
