The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
Management of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center?s business operations focused on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning. This role is ideal for highly motivated individuals who function with confidence and expertise in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. The Senior Financial Analyst will have direct visibility to senior members of the Finance team, as well as significant interaction with the broader teams/departments across key functional areas.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Act as a financial business partner across the organization to facilitate quarterly and yearly budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
Assists HICCC Assistant Director and Senior Finance Manager with maintaining systems to accurately monitor, assess and manage the revenues and expenses of the HICCC, including monitoring performance against budgets.
Ensures compliance with financial and data security regulatory requirements and with relevant policies and procedures of Columbia University, CUMC, and the HICCC.
Executes general transactional activities in support of the HICCC including timely and compliant initiation of procurement. transactions such as invoice payments, check requests, credit card payments, travel and business expense claims, requisitions, and purchase orders.
Act as point of contact for new vendor on boarding process.
Research and prepare variance analysis and explanations monthly and on ad-hoc basis.
Research, analyze, and report on financial and accounting inquiries across all our business unit.
Prepare and analyze the periodic management reporting of financial results on our strategic initiatives and programs.
Assist with annual Shared Resource license renewals, monthly/quarterly reconciliations, and reporting.
Executes salary distribution and cost transfers upon request.
Assists the Senior Finance Manager with quarterly and annual budget updates.
Assists with any ad-hoc post award activities.
Maintains updated records of departmental policies and procedures.
May require some travel to local bank for check deposits and maintain records of receipts centrally.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor?s degree or equivalent in education and experience plus 4 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledgeable in grants and various awards.
Expert-level software skills in MS data platforms is preferred.
Other Requirements
At least 3+ years of business experience, with preference given to experience in academic medical centers, hospitals, or pharmaceutical companies.
Expert knowledge of analysis of financial data and financial reports.
Ability to manage competing priorities and a drive to generate bold, creative ideas to improve performance.
Thorough planning and organizational skills with great attention to detail.
Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Flexible, team oriented, able, and willing to learn.
Demonstrated proficiency with expert Excel and PeopleSoft system experience a must.
