The Bouve College of Health Sciences is looking to hire a Post-doctoral Fellow (Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bouve College of Health Sciences, Northeastern University, Boston. Thakur Lab has been at the forefront in developing GPCR (cannabinoid receptors 1 and 2) allosteric modulators of GPCR receptor as well ligand-gated ion channel for the treatment of several diseases. Such a candidate will support the preclinical drug discovery and development for early-stage therapeutic for the treatment of neuropathic pain, glaucoma, substance use disorder, epilepsy and other disorders.
Responsibilities:
As a member of a this research team, this Research Scientist is expected to execute across all aspects of medicinal chemistry. The candidate will be responsible for designing, synthesizing, and optimizing molecules targeting GPCRs (cannabinoid receptors; allosteric and orthosteric) and ion channels (a4b2 nAChR, a7nAChR, a9* nAChR, GIRK1/2, GIRK1/4etc.). Key initial responsibilities will include biochemical and ADME/PK studies and data analysis, SAR hypothesis generation, empirical and structure-based target design, synthetic chemistry and troubleshooting.
Our main focuses are to improve the potency/efficacy and physicochemical as well as pharmacokinetics properties of the hit molecules through chemical modification. Besides, the candidate will also work on the submission of manuscripts, patents, group reports, grant proposals and providing scientific seminars as well as mentoring and assisting junior researchers in the lab. The candidate will also be responsible for certain aspects of lab management.
Qualifications:
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Medicinal Chemist with strong technical and problem-solving skills in organic and medicinal chemistry.
Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry with at least 1-3 years of relevant research experience with strong scientific knowledge.
The candidate should have a broad understanding of GPCR as well as LGIC signaling, plotting and interpretation of data, ADME, LC-MS and an ability to develop and deliver clear and concise presentations for both internal and external meetings.
Hands-on experience in GPCR signaling assays, electrophysiology assays and in-vitro/in vivo ADME/PK evaluation and computational drug discovery will be a plus. The candidate should have a strong publication record in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry and outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
