The pharmacy department at HCA HealthONE Aurora provides pharmaceutical services to all areas of the hospital. Pharmacists play a vital role in patient care through decentralization in patient care areas, representation as valued members of interdisciplinary rounding teams, and representation on hospital committees. The central pharmacy utilizes technology to efficiently and safely dispense medications. There are pharmacy satellites in the intensive care unit and operating room.

Pharmacy staff works closely with all other members of the healthcare team to enhance patient care. Pharmacists enjoy a robust scope of practice policy that includes dosing vancomycin, aminoglycosides, warfarin, and insulin glargine; along with IV to PO conversion and renal adjustment.

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

The PGY1 residency at HCA HealthONE Aurora was established in 2002. The residency program will increase confidence and knowledge in clinical pharmacy practice, as well as medication distribution roles. Residents experience a wide range of clinical specialties, assist with precepting pharmacy students, and are encouraged to seek out individual learning opportunities. Residents have opportunities to participate in a variety of committees and special projects throughout the hospital.
