UF Health Shands is a private, not-for-profit hospital system affiliated with the University of Florida Health, the Southeast’s most comprehensive academic health center. UF Health Shands Hospital is in Gainesville, Florida and is comprised of 1,135 licensed beds, receiving over 55,000 admissions annually (excluding newborns), and over 125,000 Emergency Department and Trauma Center visits.
The PGY1 Residency at UF Health Shands Hospital is an ASHP-accredited program emphasizing clinical pharmacy practice and its relationship to the total health system. The residency provides a framework for the practitioner to develop the skills necessary for providing pharmaceutical care in a variety of different health care settings. Training is provide in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice. Residents will obtain experience in the following areas: internal medicine, pediatrics, infectious diseases, drug policy, pharmacy administration, and critical care. Other elective rotation opportunities include emergency medicine, transplantation services, oncology, bone marrow transplant, pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, parenteral nutrition, cardiology, and investigational drug service. The resident also has the opportunity to participate in a variety of longitudinal experiences throughout the year including: two ACPE-accredited CE Grand Rounds Seminars (one 30 minute and one 60 minute), Medication Use Evaluation, Research Project, Code Blue Coverage, Monograph, participating member of a hospital committee, residency leadership role, and complete and publish an article for the Drugs and Therapy Bulletin.
Eligibility for Florida licensure, college transcripts, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and a letter of intent are required for application to the program.
