Purpose:
The purpose of our PGY1 program is to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
Overview:
This program is administered through the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science (UB SPPS) and the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and is sited at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center (BPC) in downtown Buffalo, NY. Strengths of this program include interprofessional, collaborative patient care in the inpatient and outpatient settings and an academic pharmacy experience anchored by the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Graduates of this residency will be competent, compassionate, and effective clinical pharmacists who are experts in providing pharmacy care to a diverse patient population. Graduates will be skilled in providing education to patients and caregivers, pharmacy students, and healthcare providers and will possess project management skills and the skills required to design, implement, manage, and evaluate a clinical pharmacy services as well as to prepare for a potential career in academia.
Candidates must possess a PharmD degree from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy and be eligible for licensure in New York State.
