Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a 622-bed tertiary care academic medical center. We not only serve the local community, including those underserved populations, but we also care for a diverse international patient population. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and its employees champion diversity, equity and inclusion, and live it out every day.
Our PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency program is a 52-week residency providing concentrated training in pediatric clinical pharmacy practice. The program is designed to prepare the resident to serve as an integral part of interprofessional teams caring for pediatric patients, incorporating evidence-based care in decisions made by the team and providing leadership in medication-related issues. Residents of the program will have the opportunity to provide care in a wide variety of settings, including pediatric and neonatal intensive care, as well as subspecialties such as pediatric cardiology, hematology / oncology, nephrology, solid organ transplant, and emergency care. Residents completing the program will be prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, along with board certification (e.g., BCPPS), manage pediatric pharmacy operations, including supervision of staff and optimization of technology to aid in medication preparation and administration. In addition, they will possess the skills to deliver effective training to health care professionals, conduct research, and lead quality improvement initiatives.
The residency offers training in general and subspecialty pediatrics, critical care (PICU, CICU, NICU), emergency medicine, transplantation, ambulatory patient care and practice management. The residency program tailors to the professional goals of the resident by complementing required rotations with a wide selection of elective rotations.
This one year residency begins July 7. The residency offers a stipend of $56,000 and full employee benefits, including medical and dental insurance. Our PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency is in Candidate Status with ASHP and we have applied for accreditation, with an anticipated accreditation survey occurring in early 2025.
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center provides the ideal tertiary and ambulatory care settings to foster the development of a contemporary pediatric pharmacy practitioner. The resident will participate in daily patient centered interdisciplinary rounds, attend pertinent committee meetings, participate in P&T and Performance Improvement activities and contribute to the teaching activities of the department. The resident will participate in all aspects of medication therapy management provided at the Medical Center.
Each resident will be expected to complete a major residency project during the year in addition to a quality improvement project. The project must deal with a subject pertinent to pharmaceutical care services within the Medical Center. It must be of direct benefit to patient care. The resident is expected to complete the research project and submit a written manuscript in a format suitable for publication.
As part of the total educational experience, the resident will be required to staff the pharmacy every third weekend. The resident will cover distributive activities during this service component.
