The critical care residency program at Holmes Regional Medical Center is an ASHP accredited 12 month program offering core-learning experiences in medical, surgical, neuroscience, and cardiovascular intensive care as well as infectious disease, emergency medicine, and eICU. The program will be customized to promote achievement of the resident’s professional goals.
Holmes Regional Medical Center is located in the middle of Florida’s famed space coast and is approximately 5 miles from the coastline. As the first hospital in Brevard County, it has been serving the population since 1937. It features a level II Trauma center, the region’s only aeromedical helicopter (First Flight), a level II neonatal ICU, primary stroke center, and Health First VitalWatch, central Florida’s only electronic intensive care unit (eICU) which remotely monitors all ICU beds across the four hospital system. Holmes Regional has a 22 bed MICU, 22 bed SICU, 14 bed CVICU and 60 bed ER with 4 resuscitation/trauma bays.
The Department of Pharmacy’s mission is to provide quality patient care by optimizing medication use and ensuring medication safety. Integrated throughout the hospital, the pharmacy team is committed to evidence-based medicine and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide the highest quality pharmaceutical services. Pharmacists are involved in physician-led critical care, trauma, and general medical rounds, cost savings and quality improvement projects, drug therapy surveillance, medication order entry, preparation and delivery and precepting of residents and APPE students.
The year of residency begins with orientation followed by ten learning experiences (including 2 electives). Each learning experience is four weeks long except Medical ICU I and Surgical ICU I, which are six weeks long.
