The goal of our ASHP accredited PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency is to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to pursue rational drug therapy by providing a broad scope of pharmaceutical services to patients and to build a solid foundation for further development of advanced pharmacy practice skills.
Six PGY-1 positions are offered at One Brooklyn Health.
Over the course of 12 months, the resident will perform a variety of functions including the following and more:
Participation in interdisciplinary rounds
Acquiring the skills needed for interpersonal communication and problem solving
Development of leadership skills required for organization, planning, coordination, budgeting, and implementation of departmental services
Conducting medication use evaluation and other quality assurance studies
Involvement in organizational committees related to drug usage
Preparing drug utilization reviews and formulary reviews for P&T presentation
Providing clinical education to pharmacy, medical, and nursing staff
Obtaining membership to the state pharmacy association

One Brooklyn Health has three member hospitals with main campuses: Brookdale Hospital Medical Center (BHMC), Interfaith Medical Center (IMC) and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center (KJMC). As a system, OBH is transforming healthcare delivery for Brooklyn's most vulnerable residents through the development of a regional ambulatory care network and the integration of key clinical services. In addition, OBH has two large nursing homes within its system, Schulman S. Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation at BHMC and Rutland Nursing Home at KJMC.
Off-site rotations may be offered at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center and Interfaith Medical Center subject to the availability of preceptors.
Pharmacy Department at BHMC
As a Level 1 Trauma center with over 500 beds consisting of an acute care hospital and two attached long-term care facilities, the Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center (BHMC) of One Brooklyn Health is one of the most established and largest teaching hospitals in the Brooklyn area. Additionally, BHMC offers a large array of clinical services such as cardiology, nephrology, psychiatry (adult and pediatrics), HIV, women and children services, and medical and surgical care to the community.
As an integral part of the organization, the Department of Pharmacy offers the following services:

Additionally, residents will have opportunity to:
Present a poster at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
Produce a platform presentation at NYSCHP Annual Assembly and New York State Regional Conference
Present an ACPE accredited continuing education lecture
Candidates must:
Possess a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy
Be eligible for New York State licensure
Have United States citizenship or permanent residency
Prospective residents are required to submit the following documents:

Three letters of recommendation (at least one from experiential rotations)

Staffing Requirements
Residents will be required to staff or supervise a total of two weekends per month and at least one weeknight per week
Resident is required to work at least two holidays
