Our mission at the Mercy Health – West Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program is to foster a learning environment that nurtures the development of compassionate and skilled pharmacy professionals. Mercy Health – West Hospital, a modern facility that opened its doors in 2013, is strategically located on the West side of Cincinnati. As a proud member of Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH), the fifth largest Catholic health system in the United States, the hospital is part of a network that includes 49 hospitals across the U.S. and Ireland. This affiliation offers pharmacy residents the unique opportunity to experience the close-knit environment of a community hospital while benefiting from the extensive resources and opportunities of a large health system.

LEARNING EXPERIENCES

The rotation schedule for the 12-month PGY1 residency program includes:

Required monthly learning experiences:
• Orientation
• Internal medicine
• Emergency medicine
• Critical care
• Antimicrobial stewardship 
• Ambulatory care
• Administration

Longitudinal learning experiences:
• Anticoagulation clinic
• Drug information
• Medication safety
• Pharmacy practice experience

Elective learning experiences:
• Anesthesia/surgery
• Cardiology

• Repeat any required rotation
• Teaching and learning certificate through the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy

Other elective learning experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability.
