The Post Graduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program at Memorial is designed to develop self-directed practitioners in a hospital environment. This is a 54-week postgraduate training experience that is designed to provide residents with advanced instruction in all aspects of pharmacy practice: acute patient care, drug information, drug use policy development, practice management, and ambulatory care. This program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Memorial Hospital of South Bend provides a systems-based approach with outcomes consistent with ASHP’s Pharmacy Residency Standards for a hospital setting.
Pharmacists completing a residency at Memorial Hospital of South Bend will enhance their competency in the following areas:

Rotations vary in format from five weeks to longitudinal rotations. The rotations are designed to provide structure and guidance with the flexibility to customize learning experiences to each resident’s personal and professional needs. Emphasis is placed on establishing a personal philosophy of practice, developing leadership and teaching skills, utilizing performance self-evaluation and exhibiting commitment to the profession.
The ultimate goal of the Memorial Hospital Pharmacy Residency PGY1 Program is to produce clinical pharmacists that provide exemplary patient care in interdisciplinary teams, capable of leading the profession and working within the framework of a health care system.
Rotations
Memorial Hospital’s residency learning experiences are designed to help residents develop the necessary skills for providing optimal pharmaceutical care to patients in a variety of care settings. The resident’s first rotation will be spent orienting and training with the drug distribution components of the Department of Pharmacy Services.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for a PGY1 residency position at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, the following criteria must be met:
Attending or graduated from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy at time of application
Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in Indiana
Memorial Hospital utilizes PhORCAS (Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service) through the ASHP for all applicants.
