Position description Geekiyanage lab at University of California, Merced is seeking a highly motivated and creative postdoctoral scholar to work in collaboration with the principal investigator, graduate students and undergraduate students in the lab. Geekiyanage lab is focused on understanding the biology of non-coding RNAs including miRNA, piRNA and long ncRNA, in the context of their fundamental properties and their contribution to disease pathologies, diagnosis and treatments. The lab is committed to developing new technologies and approaches and employs cell biology, molecular biology, genomics and mouse models to address the fundamental and translational biology questions pertaining to non-coding RNA and human health. The successful applicant will perform research in understanding the properties of extracellular miRNA and their carrier complexes, and their export and delivery routes. The successful applicant has the opportunity to collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students in the lab to work with human tissue, blood plasma, and cerebrospinal fluid samples, combined with mouse and cell culture studies using viral vector delivery, microscopy techniques (confocal and TEM), and molecular biology techniques including (not limited to) qPCR, RNA-seq, cloning and CRISPR genome editing.
Geekiyanage lab is in the Department of Bioengineering and is affiliated with the Quantitative Systems Biology Program. These departments and programs are home to a vibrant research community. The University is in close proximity to academic institutions and biotech/pharmaceutical companies in the bay area. The proximity of UC Merced to Yosemite National Park adds value to life. Basic qualifications Applicants must have a PhD degree in Biological Sciences, this is a requirement. Start date (flexible start date). Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Additional qualifications Experience in viral vector delivery will be beneficial.
Preferred qualifications Experience in performing cell culture studies is desired. Experience in performing molecular biology techniques including cloning, qPCR, RNA-seq and CRISPR are desired Application Requirements
