General Description
The Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking an optometrist to join the Wilmer White Marsh and Bel Air practices. This individual will work independently to provide primary ocular evaluations for patients seeking vision services at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Wilmer Eye Institute. Provide comprehensive care and perform general visual examinations and contact lens evaluations on patients in need of evaluation for vision correction and perform the various skills associated with the practice of optometry. Perform visual examinations and contact lens evaluation on adults and pediatric patients in need of evaluation for problems related to ocular irregularities, including but not limited to keratoconus, post-surgical vision impairments, aphakia and distortion secondary to injury or pathology. Refer and/or work in consultation with various ophthalmological specialists to diagnose and treat complicated vision disorders. Refer patients to surgeons for surgical interventions as needed. Dispense and educate patients about optometric materials prescribed for treatment for ocular conditions. Work in collaboration with the optical manager.
- Examines patients having a full range of visual problems by using a full field of optometry instruments and techniques.
- Diagnoses refractive errors and prescribes glasses and contacts as needed.
- Diagnoses and treats visual diseases, disorders, and deficiencies and prescribes treatment according to the laws of the State of Maryland, District, or Commonwealth.
- In the state or jurisdiction in which licensed or under the standing orders of a physician, uses diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to detect and diagnose ocular pathology. Uses examination techniques to determine ocular signs of systemic diseases and medications.
- Refers patients to other appropriate specialists as needed for further evaluation and treatment.
- Participates in departmental and educational meetings including peer review activities within the department and medical facility.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience or successful completion of accredited optometry residency program.
Education
- Graduation from an accredited school of Optometry required.
- License in good standing in State of Maryland required.
- National Provider Identification (NPI) required.
