The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the functions of the medical laboratory at SHS on main campus and at SHS in the Health Science Center (HSC).
This position is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the lab including employing knowledgeable personnel and assuring compliance with applicable regulations. This position must ensure that testing systems including all procedures from the collection of specimens to reporting of results provide quality laboratory services. Other duties and responsibilities include providing a safe and appropriate environment for employees, ensuring that test methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care, ensuring that quality control and quality assurance programs are followed after any unacceptable proficiency testing.
The supervisor is responsible for writing, revising, updating, etc., the policies and procedures pertaining to the laboratory. The position is also responsible for reviewing quality control, reporting laboratory statistics, and maintaining an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies.
The supervisor is responsible for training lab personnel for SHS lab on the main campus. This position is also responsible for training the nursing and provider staff person who will collect and run lab specimens at HSC and to perform periodic competency evaluations for this staff.
The supervisor is responsible for coordinating the transportation of lab specimens performed at HSC.
The supervisor must reconcile billing for both labs.
The supervisor is required to be an available resource for troubleshooting issues with the lab systems, interfaces and ends users for the labs by remoting in or physically assisting in the labs.
The supervisor must be on call after hours for reference lab values that are critical. This position must be available to reach out to providers in order to relay critical lab values after hours. If this position is unavailable to be on call, the position must designate another position to be on call.
The supervisor will perform all aspects of employee supervision but will also assume a working role in the laboratory actually performing laboratory tests.

Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science and three years of laboratory experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. .
