We are seeking a Radiologist Assistant who will enhances patient care by extending the capacity of the radiologist in the diagnostic imaging environment. Reporting to the director of Diagnostic Imaging and Body CT, the Radiologist Assistant is able to perform a variety of Diagnostic exams on both in-patients and out-patients.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Review the patient's medical record to verify the appropriateness of a specific exam or procedure (2) Interview the patient to obtain, verify, or update medical history.
Explain procedure to the patient or significant others, including a description of risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up.
Obtain informed consent.
Determine if the patient has followed instructions in preparation for the exam such as diet and pre-medications.
Assess risk factors that may be contraindications to the procedure such as health history, medications, pregnancy, psychological indicators, and alternative medicines.
Obtain and evaluate vital signs.
Perform physical examination and analysis of data such as signs and symptoms, laboratory values, and significant abnormalities, as required by the imaging procedure to be conducted.
Report findings related to Regulation to the supervising radiologist.
The Scope of Practice of a Radiologist Assistant includes the following General Procedures
Apply ECG leads and recognize life threatening ECG abnormalities.
Position patient to perform required procedure, using immobilization devices and modifying technique as necessary.
Assess patient's vital signs and levels of anxiety and pain and inform radiologist when appropriate.
Recognize and respond to medical emergencies, such as drug reactions, cardiac arrest, and hypoglycemia, and activate emergency response systems, including notification of the radiologist.
Administer oxygen as prescribed.
Operate a fixed/mobile fluoroscopic unit.
Assure documentation of fluoroscopy time.
Explain effects and potential side effects to the patient of the pharmaceutical required for the examination.
Administer contrast agents as prescribed by the radiologist.
Administer general medications, excluding radiopharmaceuticals and narcotic or sedating medications, as prescribed by the radiologist.
Monitor patient for side effects or complications of the pharmaceuticals.
The Scope of Practice of the Radiologist Assistant
Examinations and procedures, including contrast media administration, placement of needle or catheter, and operation of imaging equipment, under the immediate available direction of a radiologist.
Upper GI.
Esophagus.
Small bowel studies.
Barium enema.
Evaluation of percutaneous gastric and enteric tubes.
Cystogram and voiding cyst urethrogram.
Nasoenteric and oroenteric feeding tube placement.
Joint injection and aspiration.
Arthrogram, including conventional, CT, and MR PICC placement.
Paracentesis with appropriate image guidance.
Thoracentesis with appropriate image guidance.
Lumbar puncture under fluoroscopic guidance.
On a case-by-case basis as specified in Regulation .12 of this chapter, the Board or its designee may approve a radiologist assistant to perform one or more of the following procedures under the level of supervision by a radiologist as specified in the request letter submitted by the radiologist and radiologist assistant:
Lower extremity venography.
Lumbar, thoracic, or cervical myelography Non tunneled venous central line placement Venous catheter placement for dialysis.
Breast needle localization Ductogram (galactogram) Ttube cholangiogram.
Retrograde urethrogram.
Port injection.
Fistulogram.
Sinogram.
Loop Ogram.
Swallowing study.
Hysterosalpingogram.
Other specific procedures approved by the Board.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate from an ACR/ARRT approved RA program.
Completed ARRT R.A. registry.
Ability to successfully obtain a RA Maryland medical license, CDS &DEA License upon hire.
CPR and ACLS certified.
Requires knowledge of radiologic procedures at a level acquired through completion of a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in Diagnostic radiology, preferably in an acute care setting is desirable.
Employees are required to maintain their license to practice and certifications during duration of employment.
Excellent interpersonal skills in providing patient care.
Must be able to work independently, displaying initiative appropriate judgment as well as a team member in providing a collaborative approach to patient care.
