Atlantic Health System is seeking a Full Time Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the Pain Management Center at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ.
One year of experience required. Pain Management experience a plus.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The CMA will be responsible for directing patients in all phases of their experience with the practice. Responsibilities will include greeting and preparing for patients, scheduling, completing patient intake into EPIC system, maintaining exam rooms including cleaning and keeping inventory/ordering supplies, and handling patient prescriptions and pre-authorizations for diagnostic testing/procedures as well as other duties typical of a physician practice.
Clinical: The CMA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician, department manager, and assistant nurse manager when determining competencies and performing clinical tasks during patient care. Some of these functions include initial patient assessments and obtaining patient medical histories. Specific to the Pain Center the assessment may include pain inventories, opioid risk assessments, and other chronic pain patient specific assessments. The CMA administers medications and immunizations, obtains vital signs, maintains an inventory of appropriate supplies, ensures safe and efficient patient flow, tracks high-risk referrals and lab tests, facilitates safe transitions of care, organizes the practice environment to assure patient safety and quality health outcomes, and contributes to designated quality measures.

Billing/Administrative: Assists physicians and clinical staff as requested with faxes, filing, phone calls, charts, documents, appropriate diagnostic ordering forms, etc. At the end of the day, review EPIC to verify that every scheduled patient's chart has been completed. Communicates with insurance carriers to obtain authorizations for procedures and pharmaceuticals. Follows up on referrals. Handles patient's requests for medical information, copies of medical records, refills, and test results, etc. as instructed by the physician.
Environment of Care: Consistently responds to patients/families in a courteous and positive manner. Abides by the HIPPA guidelines. Fosters a positive and pleasant work environment which promotes our shared values. During times of low census in the department will be asked to cross cover in other departments.
Authority/Decision Making Level: Under the direction of a physician, department manager, assistant nurse manager and clinical staff, takes appropriate clinical actions using available resources, to achieve positive outcomes for patients, visitors, and staff. Independently prioritizes daily tasks and assignments. Identifies and recommends opportunities for improvement in order to ensure patient safety and quality outcomes. Responds to urgent and unplanned situations appropriately.
Orientation, competencies, and evaluations completed by department manager/assistant nurse manager.
Required Knowledge: Familiarity with computer based patient appointment scheduling, registration systems and electronic medical record. Medical terminology required. Familiarity with medication and vaccination administration.

Qualifications
Required Education:
A high school degree or GED equivalent is required.
Required Licensure/Certification:
AAMA, AMCA, NHA, NRCMA, NHA, NCCT, AMT certified after completing CMA program
Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program; passing of an accredited Medical Assistant Certification Exam.
Current CMA certification must be maintained. Valid BLS (re)certification required upon hiring.
