Pharmacists completing a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Grady Memorial Hospital (GMH) will be competent and confident professionals; function as an integral member of the health care team; provide pharmaceutical care to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes in multiple environments; demonstrate skill in educating patients, other health care professionals on drug-related topics; be equipped to meet the challenges of current and future pharmacy practice through self-development and self-evaluation; exhibit a commitment to the pharmacy profession; and improve the safe use of medications for our patients.
Pharmacy residency training at Grady was established in 1996. Residents participate in a 24-hour in house on-call program unique to only a few programs nationally. In this capacity, residents are responsible for addressing drug information questions, responding to pharmacokinetic consults, anticoagulation consults, and participating as a member of the Code Blue Response and Stroke Response teams. All residency programs consist of training and experience under the preceptorship of full-time Grady-employed Clinical Pharmacists. All members of the clinical staff have a one or two years of residency training from an accredited program. The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency training year is mid-June through June 30 of the following year.
