The Haim lab is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Scholar for an exciting collaborative research program focused on understanding the paths of HIV-1 escape from therapeutics in patients. This project constitutes part of the Haim Lab efforts toward design of molecular and computational tools to personalize antiretroviral treatments. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of molecular biologists, statisticians, and computer scientists. The work will include design and production of virus libraries, analysis of in vitro escape profiles from therapeutics using long-read sequencing technologies, and monitoring the evolutionary paths of the virus in patients. The technological foundations for the project, with compelling published and preliminary data, serve as a strong basis for several high-quality publications.

The Haim lab has a broad network of collaborations with research groups from diverse disciplines across multiple academic institutions in the US, as well as collaborations with pharmaceutical companies to test our models. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is a highly supportive and collaborative environment with a weekly Departmental seminar series, a virology journal club and lab group meetings.

Responsibilities associated with the position include:

• Design and production of virus libraries and infection of cell cultures.


• Deep sequencing of virus preparations and of clinical samples.


• Close collaboration with computational biologists in the lab to analyze sequence data and model changes in virus proteins.


• Work independently in a collaborative environment, assist junior members of the lab with design and execution of experiments, and interact with external collaborating groups.


• Study design, collection and analysis of experimental data, maintenance of electronic records, troubleshooting experiments, and training research assistants.


• Preparation of meeting abstracts and manuscripts related to the work.


• Presentation of the work in lab and Departmental meetings, as well as international meetings (at least one each year).
