East Tennessee State University Pediatrics Department seeks a well-qualified clinical metabolic dietician. The academic rank of the instructor (clinical track) will be determined by the credentials and experience of the candidate. This position is housed within the Department of Pediatrics. Remote work options will be considered. This position is contingent upon outside funding.
Responsibilities include:
Management of rare genetic disorders that require special dietary restrictions and/or formula. (PKU, Galactosemia, MSUD, Organic acidemias, Fatty acid oxidation disorders (use of MCT oil), glycogen storage disorders, and other disorders that may use uncooked cornstarch as management, mitochondrial disorders (That will likely need consideration for ketogenic diet) among others. (Disorders involving insulin metabolism are excluded (ie Diabetes).
Willingness to connect with other dietary professionals regionally and nationally participating in educational meetings. (Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International)
Opportunities for research. Periodic review of existing guidelines pertaining to the above.
Communication with the pharmaceutical industry to provide ongoing feedback about the products. Being able to communicate about possible alternatives and substitutes if the current formula is not tolerated
Communication with the regional newborn screening program. Dietary management will likely be a feedback item for the state program.

Required Qualifications:
Registered dietician degree.
