The Pharmaceutics Laboratory at the Magee Women's Research Institute, University of Pittsburgh, is currently accepting applicants. Research in this laboratory lies in the design, development, and assessment of drug delivery systems for application in the areas of infectious disease and women’s health. The lab is highly translational and has developed over 50 pharmaceutical products, 12 of which were advanced through clinical testing. The laboratory seeks to transform global health through pharmaceutical innovation. To this end, the lab is also designing bio-relevant systems to predict the clinical functionality of pharmaceutical products and conduct drug transport, metabolism, and drug-drug interactions. Their work also includes establishing bio-relevant parameters for the development of relevant physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models for the female reproductive tract. The laboratory is developing pharmaceutical products and translating them from the bench to human clinical testing.
Under the supervision of the faculty, the candidate will be responsible for conducting drug-drug interactions studies including in vitro CYP and UGT inhibition, CYP induction profiling using primary hepatocytes, microsomal metabolic stability, reaction phenotyping using recombinant CYPs and UGTs, solubility, protein binding, blood/plasma partitioning, RNA isolation, mRNA to CDNA conversion and RT-qPCR experiments. They will also conduct in vitro bidirectional permeability studies using Caco2 cells and conduct ex vivo permeability studies in excised human tissues. They will perform immunohistochemistry to support research work. They will participate in pharmacokinetic modeling activities across projects in the laboratory. The individual will also work with collaborators and funders across multiple institutions.
