Job Summary
The Geha Laboratory in the Division of Immunology, Boston Children's Hospital seeks applications for the position of Research Assistant I. We investigate mechanisms underlying eczema and allergic diseases using molecular biology, cellular immunology, and mouse models of allergic disease.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Transgenic mice maintenance, genotyping, and characterization.
• Working with the guidance of an experienced scientist in and characterizing mouse models of human disease, including atopic dermatitis and food allergy.
• Studies of gene expression, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescent microscopy.
• Active participation and data presentation in weekly laboratory meetings.
• Maintenance of laboratory supplies.
• Conducting a variety of routine experiments using molecular, cell biology and/or biochemistry techniques under supervision of the principal investigator.
• Recording test results, calculating, transcribing, and analyzing data using basic statistics.
• Assisting with lab related management duties.
• Maintains records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed; compiles and helps analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
• Demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students; maintains equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner and carries out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols
• Troubleshoots procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. May suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings. Performs techniques typically required for the laboratory/study.
• Assists with planning specific research procedures, coordinating schedules of experiments and procedures. Develops and troubleshoots new techniques specific to the lab.
• Maintains accurate records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed. Compiles and helps analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
• Demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents, and students. Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.

In order to qualify you must:

• A Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field or at least one year of Full Time laboratory experience.
• The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
• The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Previous experience in immunology laboratory, mouse handling, tissue processing, tissue culture, genotyping, and flow cytometry highly preferred.
• A full-time two-year commitment is preferred.
