Under general direction, assists the other research investigators by performing in vivo and in vitro work in the field of neuroscience and related areas and set up required animal models required for various projects and funding acquisition and publications; assists with research projects and may perform independent research; compiles, processes and analyzes data; performs supervisory and training duties.
Job Duties
In vivo rodent research in the areas of neuroscience, which involves maintenance of a genetically engineered mouse colony, behavioral testing, tissue dissection, provide study support in mouse and rat disease models ranging from basic injections to surgical procedures; anesthesia and euthanasia support; compound dosing for treatment studies.
Independent development of new models
Liaise with the pharmaceutical sector to establish research contracts
Assists with research projects; performs independent research; plans, designs, and implements research projects; prepares and maintains culture, assist with technical aspects of studies and experiments including tissue processing biochemical analyses, DNA, RNA, an protein isolations q RT-PCR, immunoblot processing, data analyses and management, and general lab management.
Complies processes and analyzes data; records research procedures and results; files and maintains records; codes data for input for electronic data processing; inputs and retrieves data using computers.
Sets-up and operates various scientific apparatus; sets-up and operates spectrophotometer, faction collectors, chromatography equipment, centrifuges, incubators, homogenizers, and various microscopes.
Performs various clerical duties including typing, answering phones, preparing correspondence, preparing and maintaining bibliographies, and completing application forms.
Performs other duties assigned
Trains graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive experience in rodent research in the areas of neuroscience and inflammation
Extensive experience in biochemical and molecular approaches
Extensive experience in carrying out PK/PD studies
Ability to work independently and demonstrate operational and learning flexibility
Training individuals at different levels, from graduate students to junior faculty
Knowledge of experimental design and pharmacology in the context of pharmaceutical research
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in science or related field. Broad knowledge involving laboratory
techniques or other specialized knowledge is desired.
