Job Summary General Description: Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Utilizes specialized Responsible for characterizing EEG signatures from various mouse models of autism spectrum disorders and epilepsy, learning and performing rodent surgeries for implanting EEG devices, working with pharmaceutical companies, designing longitudinal mouse drug studies, and working with tissue cultures and lab managerial tasks and mouse husbandry.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Maintains records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed; compiles and helps analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
Demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students; maintains equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner and carries out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols
Troubleshoots procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. May suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings. Performs techniques typically required for the laboratory/study.
Assists with planning specific research procedures, coordinating schedules of experiments and procedures. Develops and troubleshoots new techniques specific to the lab.
Maintains accurate records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed. Compiles and helps analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
Demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students. Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Analyctical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in depth, experienced based knowledge.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
To qualify, you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry or a closely related field.
Experience handling or breeding rodents, rodent surgery, tissue culture, biochemical assays, or genotyping.
