The primary responsibility of the Pharmacy Procurement Supervisor is to assume responsibility for the administration and operations of the Inventory/Formulary Management section. This pharmacist oversees the daily work of procurement, participates in all Pharmacy Service activities including clinically oriented programs and quality assurance activities, and coordinates all functions and activities within the Section to ensure they coincide with other sections of the Pharmacy Service. To be creditable, the experience must have demonstrated the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with professional pharmacy practice. Professional practice means paid/non-paid employment as a professional or unlicensed graduate pharmacist as defined by the appropriate licensing board. Residency and Fellowship Training. Residency and fellowship training programs in a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice may be substituted for creditable experience on a year-for-year basis. The pharmacy residency program must be accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). A fellowship program that is not accredited by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) will need to have comparable standards for experience to be creditable (Professional Standards Board refers to the Deputy Chief Consultant for Professional Practice for the determination). Quality of Experience. Qualifying experience must be at a level comparable to pharmacy experience at the next lower level. Experience as a Graduate Pharmacist is creditable provided the candidate was used as a professional pharmacist (under supervision) and subsequently passed the appropriate licensure examination. Part-time Experience. Part-time experience as a professional pharmacist is credited according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a pharmacist employed 20 hours a week, or on a 1/2-time basis, would receive 1 full-time workweek of credit for each 2 weeks of service. Ensures drug procurement complies with VA National policies, VA contracts and National Formulary. Employs effective purchasing procedures to maximize use of budget allocations. Serves as the pharmacy recall coordinator by developing and implementing action plans to manage drug recalls. Develops and implements action plans in response to drug shortages and backorders. Coordinates purchase of all pharmacy items, including specialty drugs, prime vendor, open market, etc. Places orders using VA credit card, reconciles charges within IFCAP and US Bank, and maintains all purchase card records. Clinical Promotes a patient-focused, team based multi-disciplinary model of pharmaceutical care to promote drug prescribing, medication monitoring and drug laboratory review that assures positive outcomes from medication use. Enhances current pharmacy system to place pharmacist into an environment of direct patient and prescriber contact, where pharmacist also have unrestricted access to clinical information. This system provides exceptional, timely pharmaceutical care services to all medical center patients. Works to develop and maintain a system that aids pharmacy staff in identifying actual or potential drug-related problems at the front end of the order thereby eliminating duplication of efforts, reducing medication errors, and increasing patient satisfaction. Education/Training Participates in meetings, conferences, and training programs relevant to the development and maintenance of the Pharmacy Procurement team.
