Position Summary:
Today's UC Irvine Stem Cell Research Center is a dynamic center encompassing a diverse array of interdisciplinary investigators that span the schools of Medicine, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Arts and Law. Our state-of-the-art, LEED Platinum certified research and clinical building houses 23 of our 50 center faculty members. Center faculty have obtained more than $170 million dollars in grant and foundation funds. Our research programs include an National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored T32 training grant, state of the art shared equipment, research services programs and a seminar series.
Incumbent will carry out experiments planned under the supervision of the Specialist or senior researcher, that involve the functional histological and molecular assessment of outcomes of various spinal cord transplantation procedures. Incumbent will be responsible for training others in each of the techniques utilized. Incumbent is independently responsible for supervision of lab personnel, including problem solving, delegation, and training, organization and maintenance of lab facilities, including record keeping, purchasing and equipment, as well as design studies, collect and analyze data, and create reports. Position requires significant organizational skills, as well as specific research techniques including surgery, tissue dissection, cell culture, histology (including immunohistochemistry and processing to EM) and microscopy techniques.

$26.93 - $43.33 (hourly)
Required:
Extensive lab research experience (minimum 3 years). Experience working with animals (rats, mice). Experience with a variety of histological techniques and immunohistochemistry. Experience with cell culture.
Minimum of bachelor's degree in scientific field.

Ability to interact, direct, and oversee individuals of different educational and skill levels.
Ability to work in a team atmosphere. Understanding of the detailed mechanisms of tissue processing and of different microtomes.
Advanced computer skills to perform literature searches, record and maintain data, and analyze data. Experience with molecular techniques.
Preferred:
Experience training lab personnel in research techniques, equipment use, safety protocols and data record keeping methods. Ability to exercise independent judgment and resourcefulness in decision making.
Experience working in area of SCI or neuronal degeneration/transplantation.
Extensive knowledge of university procedures and standards in areas of facilities management, animal protocols, health and safety regulations, and purchasing.
