The Department of Facilities Services is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operations of buildings and utility systems, consisting of approximately 5.7 million square feet of space across four campuses (Somerville/Medford, Grafton, Boston and the SMFA). This role will be based out of Medford, MA.
A broad range of services are provided to support each campus which include the repair and maintenance of the University's assets, capital renewal, engineering, energy and utilities management, waste management, event management, care of grounds, janitorial and pest services. We are committed to developing the highest standards of quality and performance and dedicated to continuous improvement across each department. We work very closely with the Department of Public & Environmental Safety coordinating daily operations with Tufts Police, Fire Marshalls, Industrial Hygiene and Lab Safety personnel. We also support the planning, design, construction, and turnover processes for major renovations and new construction in conjunction with the Department of Capital Programs. This role will have reporting requirements which are to be coordinated with these departments. Each campus utility consists of medium voltage electricity-, high- and low-pressure steam, hot water, and chilled water using both centralized and distributed boiler, chiller, power generation and heat recovery assets. These services are distributed primarily through direct buried conduit and piping systems. The efficiency and flexibility of these plants make them a key part of Tufts carbon neutral by 2050 commitment. This role will be responsible for the reliable, safe, and efficient automation, integration, control, fault detection and alarming of the buildings consuming utilities and these utility systems.
It is a fundamental tenet for all employees within the Operations Division to support, engage and promote university investment in sustainable and economically defensible business practices that balance our stature as a prominent environmental steward with our need to deliver preeminent, cost effective education.
