In 1976 The University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital partnered to create a pediatric pharmacy residency program making it one of the oldest pediatric residency programs in the country. Since that time over 120 individuals have completed their post-doctoral training in this program.
The Pharmacy Department at LBCH utilizes an integrated model to provide patient and family centered pharmaceutical care. Clinical pharmacists provide medication order verification, adverse drug reaction monitoring, therapeutic drug monitoring, anticoagulation monitoring, patient and family education, student and resident precepting and numerous other clinical activities as a respected member of the health care team.
Our programs provide residents with the knowledge and skills required to become competent clinical pharmacy practitioners capable of providing pharmaceutical care in a variety of practice settings.
Residents are expected to complete a major research project relating to pediatric pharmacy practice in an area of interest, complete a medication use evaluation, provide education to patients, pharmacy students and other health professionals in a variety of formal and informal settings, serve on various departmental committees, and participate in departmental projects. Residents also interact with preceptors in journal clubs, patient case presentations, and leadership development. PGY2 Residents serve as Co-Chief Residents for the duration of the residency year. A detailed list of residency requirements is provided during the interview process.
Application requirements are available on our website: http://www.lebonheur.org/pharmacy residency
