As a HSPAL resident at PSHMC, you will have a wide variety of learning opportunities in various areas of health system pharmacy that will build on your PharmD education and PGY-1 skills to promote independence, innovation, growth and leadership. The program aims to train competent practitioners that can assume high level supervisory, management, and leadership responsibilities. This one-year PGY-2 training offers abundant experiences and exposures in areas of pharmacy administration including medication use systems and technology, medication safety, regulatory and quality assurance, human resources management, budget and financial management, purchasing and procurement, and formulary and utilization management.
Prior to the start of the program, the resident shall be a graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) and shall be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Washington. Our commitment to patient care has decentralized clinical pharmacists providing services to the entire hospital. The pharmacists are relied on as a valuable member of the care team. Pharmacists provide oversight and input in medication therapy by participating in profile review and intervention, dosing protocols, drug information, code blue, hospital and medical staff ...education, committee participation, protocol development and medication utilization evaluation. These longstanding practices have resulted in excellent relationships with our medical and nursing staffs.
