The Department of Technology Management and Innovation and the Center for Urban Science and Progress, both in Tandon School of Engineering, invite applications for two tenure track positions at the level of Assistant Professor with joint appointment between the two units, with earliest start date of September 1, 2023.
Effective technology and innovation management and entrepreneurship increasingly determine success in business today. The Department of Technology Management and Innovation is an acknowledged pioneer and leader in offering courses and programs about these increasingly critical arenas. The department serves a diverse and broad range of professionals, and its faculty and students compose a vital and forward-thinking research and learning community. The department’s research and educational offerings focus on a broad range of sectors, including financial and professional services; retailing and logistics; biotechnology and pharmaceuticals; renewable energy and clean technology; media and entertainment; IT, telecom, networks and modern electronic business; and non-for-profits and government-all constituting areas of greatest growth and opportunity in the modern economy, especially in New York City, the nation’s foremost global city.
The Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to the application of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the service of urban communities across the globe. Using New York City as our laboratory and classroom, NYU CUSP strives to develop novel data- and technology-driven solutions to advance our understanding of cities and help address the complex challenges they face. CUSP’s research and educational initiatives focus on high-impact areas such as climate change and resiliency, improving public health, designing modern urban infrastructure, and promoting the ethical and equitable design, collection, and deployment of data and technology in cities.
We are looking for candidates with expertise and interest in the intersection of technology, innovation, and people, in particular as they apply to smart cities and urban environments.
We encourage applications from candidates with expertise and interest in establishing research programs with emphasis on, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Human-technology interaction
- Sociotechnical urban systems
- Urban innovation
- Technology management in smart cities
- Entrepreneurship and smart cities
- Design thinking and smart cities
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in management, engineering, or a related discipline. Candidates must demonstrate clear potential for scholarship, leadership, curricular innovation, entrepreneurship, and funding. All candidates must demonstrate or show potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring.

Additional Information
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary (for 9 month) range for this position is $105,000 - $175,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
