Thank you for your interest in our PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program. It was established in 2008 with our inaugural class. Since that time, we have grown our program to include 6 PGY1 residency positions. Our PGY1 program builds on doctor of pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification and eligible for PGY2 Pharmacy residency training.

PGY1 Pharmacy residents will progress through a series of customized rotational and longitudinal learning experiences during the 12-month period. We offer a mix of required and elective learning experiences in multiple areas. Block rotations are one month long, which allows for 10 focused rotations (seven required and three elective).

• Orientation (July each year)
• General Medicine (two required blocks)
• Infectious Diseases
• Medical or Surgical Critical Care
• Pharmaceutical Care
• Administration
• Ambulatory Care - Family Medicine Clinic
• Transition/Research (December each year)

Elective Learning Experiences

• Cardiology
• Cardiovascular Surgery Critical Care
• Emergency Medicine
• General Pediatrics
• Information Technology
• Neonatal Intensive Care
• Trauma/General Surgery
• Drug Information/Medication Safety-focused rotation
• Additional Critical Care (Medical ICU, Surgical ICU)
• Other specific elective experiences may be available, depending on the resident(s) interests

Longitudinal Experiences

• Service/Pharmacy practice*
• Medication use
• Professional presentations
• Research
• Teaching certificate program (optional)

*Residents will have a service commitment of one evening per week and every third weekend.
