PGY1 Pharmacy Residents at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital (RPH) will take on the role of clinical pharmacist and teacher in varied practice settings. The goal is to train clinical competence, leadership and professional skills supported by self-directed learning, with the confidence to excel in diverse practice environments. Residents will benefit from Guthrie Graduate Medication Education expertise and our strong relationship with Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Core learning experiences include Internal Medicine, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Critical Care, Ambulatory Infusion Center, Teaching and Learning (Teaching certificate available), Project, Pharmacy Practice (Longitudinal staffing every 3rd weekend and one evening every 3 weeks), Advanced Decentralized Practice, Leadership and Medication Safety.
Elective learning experiences include: Hematology/Oncology, Pain Management, Family Medicine, Cardiology, Psychiatry, and Emergency Medical Response (longitudinal).
Applicants are required to have a Pharm.D degree and be eligible for PA licensure. During the application process, we request that applicants provide letter of intent that answers the following questions:
1) As it relates to your career goals, why have you chosen to pursue a residency? Why at Guthrie?
2) Describe a situation in which you influenced a patient’s medication therapy.
We also request three (3) letters of recommendation with at least two from direct patient care preceptors/supervisors.

Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital (RPH) is a 267-bed tertiary care referral center in Sayre, Pennsylvania. RPH is the recipient of numerous national awards for the high quality care it provides to patients. The hospital is a Regional Level II Trauma Center, accredited by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation, and is served by Guthrie Air, a regional aeromedical helicopter program. Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital offers a full range of diagnostic, medical and surgical services.
RPH is a layered learning environment including varied student disciplines, residencies (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia), and Pulmonary/Critical Care, Cardiovascular and Gastroenterology fellowships. With strong provider support and participation, as well as affiliation with Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPPS), many exciting opportunities exist.
