Pharmacists completing the St. Peter’s PGY-1 residency program will function as independent, patient-focused practitioners who are able to provide high level pharmaceutical care in both community based inpatient acute care as well as ambulatory based clinical practice. Additionally, graduates of the residency program will be qualified to:
Provide excellent patient care with a focus on community hospital practice
Seek advanced specialty training
Seek board certification by the Board of Pharmaceutical Services (BPS)
Precept and educate pharmacy residents and students
St. Peter’s Health is a sole provider, not–for–profit, licensed 123-bed facility located in Helena, Montana. It is accredited by the DNV and is an affiliate of VHA–Mountain States. Medical staff consists of 110 physicians representing approximately 30 different specialties, with significant strength in the primary care specialty areas. The hospital provides healthcare services to an estimated 97,000 residents of Lewis and Clark, Broadwater, Jefferson, Meagher, and Powell counties.
The St. Peter’s pharmacy department enjoys a progressive pharmacy practice that includes a broad range of collaborative drug therapy agreements and clinical services. The department is represented by highly qualified staff with a strong interest in teaching and mentorship. Clinical pharmacy services are de-centralized to the following patient care areas:

The St. Peter’s Health pharmacy PGY-1 practice residency program is a 12-month post graduation training program that offers a vari...ety of rotations and substantial program flexibility. PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. Pharmacists completing the St. Peter’s PGY-1 residency program will function as independent, patient-focused practitioners who are able to provide high level pharmaceutical care in both community based inpatient acute care as well as ambulatory based clinical practice. Additionally, graduates of the residency program will be qualified to:
